The 'Beroepsvereniging voor Improviserende Musici' (Professional Association for Improvising Musicians) – BIM for short – exists 50 years! The BIM has been committed to the interests of jazz and improvised music in the Netherlands since 1971. They strive to create more venues and better financial conditions for musicians for example. To celebrate this, during Transition, various ad hoc quintets with jazz musicians from five different generations will play brand new compositions commissioned by the BIM.
Iman Spaargaren composed a triptych that expresses the rise, bloom and decline of Europe in the twenty-first century. Orchestral sections and classical themes alternate with compelling free funk, dreamy soundscapes and abrasive experiment.
