The Voice of Monk explores the many facets of the music of the renowned American jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk, expand and translate it into contemporary music. The music focuses on tensions between conventions and freedom. In combination with lyrics and spoken word, the music of Voice of Monk leads to new and groundbreaking music.
Voice of Monk not only play newly arranged repertoire from Monk as well as new, contemporary compositions from members of the group. The combination of the five talented players of Voice of Monk, their inspiring new compositions, their intense interplay and very own interpretation of Monk’s music, the group has a strong and unique voice in the world of jazz.
