The Undercurrent Trio of saxophonist-clarinettist Iman Spaargaren, guitarist Guillermo Celano and percussionist Marcos Baggiani brings together in jazz based impro with mainly electronic produced soundscapes and all sorts of influences from further away, like tango from Argentina, the land Celano and Baggiani come from. The music has been inspired by the confusing information overload with which we have to deal with in our everyday life in a seemingly ever increasing way.
In most of the compositions a certain feeling of uneasiness and discomfort is presented and resolved in a beautiful melodic and harmonic way. A exception is the only standard ‘Dream A Little Dream Of Me’, or is this ment to be a cynical comment? Spaargaren and Celano succeed to build intriguing stories in a short periode of time, while Baggiani is very creative in establishing a dramatic framework.
